Privacy policy.

OverCompare is an independent UK consumer publication. We collect as little data as we can get away with while still being able to tell whether our articles are read. This page explains exactly what that means.

01Who we are

OverCompare ("we", "us", "our") publishes independent reviews and rankings of UK comparison sites at overcompare.com. The site is operated by Delixia Ltd, a company registered in England (established 2008), registered address: 14 Maltings Field, Castlethorpe, MK19 7EG. Delixia Ltd is the data controller for personal data collected through this website under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

We are not a comparison site, broker, or regulated financial firm. We don't quote products, take applications, or hold any customer financial data.

02What we collect

OverCompare has no accounts, no logins, no checkout, and no contact forms that store submissions on our servers. In normal use the data we hold about you is limited to:

  • Analytics data — pages you view, approximate location (country/region), device type, browser, referring page, and time on page. Collected via Google Analytics. See section 4.
  • Cookie consent choice — whether you accepted or declined our cookie banner. Stored locally in your browser, not on our servers. See section 3.
  • Server logs — our hosting provider may keep short-lived access logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL) for security and abuse prevention.
  • Email content — if you email us, we receive the email and its contents. We reply, and the message sits in our mailbox.

We do not collect your name, address, date of birth, financial information, insurance details, or any of the personal information you might enter on a comparison site itself. When you click through from OverCompare to a comparison site, you leave our domain and that site's privacy policy takes over.

03Cookies & local storage

OverCompare uses a small number of cookies and one local-storage entry. None of them are used for advertising or for building a profile of you across other sites.

You can decline analytics cookies via our cookie banner. If you decline, we still load the Google Analytics script but with consent flags set to deny — Google should not store identifiers or build a profile. You can also block cookies entirely in your browser settings; the site will continue to work normally.

04Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (property G-HSC8EKC7X9) to understand which articles people read and which they don't. We have IP anonymisation enabled and we have not enabled Google Signals, ad personalisation, or data sharing with Google's advertising products.

Google processes this data on our behalf as a data processor, and may transfer it outside the UK. Google relies on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and EU Standard Contractual Clauses for those transfers. You can read Google's own privacy information at policies.google.com/privacy and opt out of all Google Analytics tracking with Google's browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

05Legal basis

Under UK GDPR we need a lawful basis to process your data. Ours are:

  • Consent — for analytics cookies. You give consent through the cookie banner and can withdraw it at any time by clearing the oc_cookie entry in your browser.
  • Legitimate interests — for short-lived server access logs (security and abuse prevention) and for responding to email you send us.

06Retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months, then automatically deleted. Server access logs are retained by our hosting provider for up to 30 days. Emails you send us are kept for as long as the conversation is reasonably active, plus a backup retention period, then deleted.

07Sharing & third parties

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with anyone for marketing purposes. The third parties that process limited data on our behalf are:

  • Google (Google Analytics) — analytics processor.
  • Our hosting provider — serves the website and keeps short-lived access logs.
  • Our email provider — receives and stores email you send us.

We may also disclose information if required by law, by a UK court order, or to protect our legal rights.

About outbound links. OverCompare reviews comparison sites and links to them. When you click through, you leave our site and that operator becomes the data controller for anything you do there. We have no visibility of, and no responsibility for, what happens on those sites.

08Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct any inaccurate data
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten") where applicable
  • Restrict or object to processing
  • Withdraw consent for analytics cookies at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)

Because we hold so little data, most of these requests resolve in a single email. To exercise any of them, contact us at the address in section 11.

09Children

OverCompare is intended for adults considering financial, insurance, and contract products. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

10Changes to this policy

If we make material changes — for example, adding affiliate tracking or a new third-party processor — we'll update this page, change the "last updated" date at the top, and where appropriate flag it on the homepage. Minor wording fixes won't be announced.

11Contact & complaints

Privacy questions, data requests, or corrections: paul@overcompare.com. We aim to respond within 5 working days and to resolve formal data requests within 30 days as required by UK GDPR.

If you're not happy with how we handle a privacy concern, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
